Confucius classroom initiative

In 2012 I took 19 student leaders (aged 11 – 19) to China to work alongside 20 Chinese students in Shanghai. The project was part of the Confucius classroom initiative and taught the children how to lead – even with limited local knowledge and language skills we devised, produce and performed a creative dance and drama performance with a cast of 350 students with an age range of 4 years to 14. We were accompanied by Lady Butterworth who introduced the Confucius classroom project across 20 schools in the UK.

Warwick University – IGGY

November 2011 – Working with a British Explorer I co-ordinated a project with the international Gateway for Gifted Youth (IGGY) at Warwick University.

British Council Research

February 2009 – I was sponsored by the British Council to visit five schools in Southern Australia, the purpose of this research trip was to meet teachers and pupils in the Adelaide area and look at the changing use of ICT technology in schools and at to explore the use of the Middle Years International Baccalaureate, on my return I presented my findings to Head teachers and leaders of education in the Warwickshire area. The purpose was to see the potential of curriculum change and to maximise the impact of using technology in schools.

Mountain Challenge

August 2009 – As part of a Skype/Microsoft sponsored expedition in the Himalayas I was brought in to support an education programme within the remote Khumbu region. I travelled within Nepal to Monjo School in the Himalayas to provide and teach students and teachers how to use laptops and connect to the outside world. This was an extremely rewarding trip. We also painted and decorated classrooms and showed the school some simple ways to help children move forward with their learning. We set up an Internet cafe at a local tourist lodge in order that the school could afford and maintain their power supplies (so they could run the laptops)
